Festival Village Opening
Commercial activities of the Calabar Christmas Festival resumed officially this morning, the 1st of December 2012.
As the morning broke into the full glare of its sunshine, so was the breath of fresh air that filled the atmosphere.
The people of Calabar trooped to the U J Esuene stadium, not for their routine daily exercises but for a special burst of sweat to recognize people infected or affected worldwide by the deadly HIV\AIDS virus.
Indeed, the mark of a new dawn is a signal heralding the greatest of a people, nation and culture. Greatness as seen from the shards of lights and the roaring sound of the victor's song as it echoes into the thickness of the shimmering moon light. Where the people dance, eat, merry and celebrate their conquest in the company of their guests, who came to witness and also partake in the making of this new day. Fittingly, a reason to celebrate because the people have conquered.
There are days when gloom and ‘the blues’ take hold of a person’s psyche, leaving them withdrawn and despondent. Yesterday was absolutely NOT one of those days as anticipation for the Calabar Festival attained a new height. The tree lighting ceremony which usually heralds the 32 day long festivity took place yesterday and was laced with great pomp and pageantry.
For all those interested in Fashion and would like to show their style and creativity, this event in the festival has alot to offer. From Local designers to world renowned fashionistas, the outfits and models presented on this day are simply awesome. Join us as we walk you through the different designers that were show-cased here.
